I remember vividly how the Contempory Hotel on Walt Disney World’s park smelled of new carpet and vanilla in 1974, and there were the many dive motels I’ve landed in over the years. When I think of hotel lobbies, my olfactory brings up a mix of fresh flowers, chlorine, and stale beer to counter your pine floors and fried crab claws.
